Program Notes for Jewish Events
Some people might think that the music world is separate from the Torah world. Phillip Namanworth has proven that the opposite is true.
Namanworth’s performances integrate his musical - spiritual journey through Judaism with the challenges of daily life. His original style joins heaven and earth; fusing the ancient wisdom of the sages with the rhythm and blues of the soul.
Phillip Namanworth has a distinguished musical career as a singer / songwriter. He has written songs and scores for movies, recordings, cabaret, and theater. He was the pianist for the original Broadway productions of Superstar and The Rocky Horror Show. His music and lyrics have appeared on award winning television productions, such as Saturday Night Live, Nickelodeon’s Rugrats, and Sesame Street. Phillip is an accomplished blues / rock pianist who has worked with noted pop acts Roberta Flack, Ry Cooder, Kenny Vance, and Elliot Randall. He was the lyricist for the Off Broadway show Finkel's Follies.
Phillip performs shows solo, duo, trio or with the full band.
He works with an incredible group of musicians: his band is called Always Somethin’.
In August 2009 “Secret of Our souls: A Kabbalistic Love Story: The Journey of The Baal Shem Tov” about the founder of the Chassidic movement, with book and lyrics by Benjamin Goldstein and music composed by Phillip Namanworth ran as part of the prestigious NYC Fringe Festival which introduces new plays and musicals.
Goldstein and Namanworth are currently working on a follow up show called “The Storyteller” based on stories of the Baal Shem Tov.
